Claret Cup Cactus
Botanical Name:
Echinocerus triglochidiatus
Nick Name:
(King Cup)
Description:
A “hedgehog” cactus native to rocky areas of Arizona, Colorado & New Mexico. This makes it much more cold hardy than some. The individual “barrels” are 3” to 4” in height, sparsely spined, with beautiful, deep red flowers that appear April – June. Unlike other cactus flowers, they stay open at night & each bloom lasts 3-5 days. Hardy to USDA zone 3 at least.
Notes:
Specimen
rescued from urban development in Arizona and given to us
by Ann & Eric in 2003. Now planted in a terracotta
pot.
