Louis Gaste, Songwriter of "Feelings"
Louis Gaste, Songwriter of
January 9, 1995
Louis Gaste, who wrote the song that was plagiarized as the popular hit "Feelings," died today at his home here. He was 88. The cause was cancer, friends said. Mr. Gaste also wrote the song known in English as "How Much Is That Doggie in the Window?" In 1956, Mr. Gaste wrote "Pour Toi" ("For You") with his wife, the singer and actress Line Renaud. It had no particular success, but in 1975 Morris Albert adapted it as "Feelings" and it became a pop staple. Mr. Gaste sued Mr. Albert and won $500,000 in damages in 1987.
Mr. Gaste began his career in the 1930's as a guitarist in the Ray Ventura orchestra before he started composing. He wrote more than 1,000 songs, among them "Battling Joe," which became a signature song for Yves Montand.
A version of this obituary; biography appeared in print on Monday, January 9, 1995, on section B page 9 of the New York edition.

Nina Simone
Song by Louis Gaste, adapted by Morris Albert

Feelings, nothing more than feelings,
trying to forget my feelings of love.
Teardrops rolling down on my face,
trying to forget my feelings of love.
Feelings, for all my life I'll feel it.
I wish I've never met you, girl; you'll never come again.

Feelings, wo-o-o feelings, wo-o-o, feel you again in my arms.

Feelings, feelings like I've never lost you
and feelings like I've never have you again in my heart.
Feelings, for all my life I'll feel it.
I wish I've never met you, girl; you'll never come again.
Feelings, feelings like I've never lost you
and feelings like I've never have you again in my life.

Feelings, wo-o-o feelings, wo-o-o, feelings again in my arms. Feelings...
Chilling!!

Quote from a wine maker
Quote from a wine maker
"Nothing is life counts more than the happiness we can give others, the good that we can do. This is what we must teach our children, to think of others more than they think of themselves, for it is in this way they will find the most noble satifacation of all."

Lyrics from Nina Simone
Consummation, a beautiful love song based on a Bachian figure, reveals the tenderness of Nina's soul. Written and performed by Nina Simone, 1967

And now we are one
Let my soul rest in peace
At last it is done
My soul has been released
For thousands of years
My soul has roamed the earth
In search for you
So that someday I could give birth

To know joy, joy, joy, joy
Joy and peace is mine
Peace divine
And now we give thanks
Give thanks for each other
At peace forever
For it is done

At peace forever
For we are one

Politics Test
The Politics Test is impartial, written by mathematicians who run a free dating site (www.OkCupid.com), and it explores your ecomonic and social ideas, and then places you into a 2-D spectrum of political thought. The goal of this Politics Test is self analysis, and that's it. Our only agenda is supporting people who'd like to think about tough issues.
