Snookies Malt Shop is synonymous with summer in Des Moines. (People even camp out to get the first cone of the season.) There's a small indoor dining area, but most people savor the sunshine with their ice cream and sit outside. Bring your puppy and ask for a puppy cone.

Herb and Kathy Eckhouse founded the company because they knew they could make a world class product in their home state of Iowa. La Quercia has been incredibly successful to date and has shocked many of the taste makers in their industry. Their product takes a long time to produce, and they have had trouble keeping up with demand because they have refused to sacrifice quality.
