Thomas Cake
(Buttermilk Brownies)

2 cups sugar
2 cups sifted flour
4 tablespoons cocoa
1 cup cold water
1/2 cup margarine
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 eggs
Sift sugar, flour and cocoa together in bowl. In saucepan, bring water, margarine and salad oil to a boil, pour over dry ingredients in bowl and beat until creamy. Add buttermilk, soda, and eggs. Beat thoroughly. Bake in greased jelly roll pan for 18 minutes at 400°F.

Frosting

1/2 cup margarine
1/4 cup cocoa
1/3 cup buttermilk
4 cups powdered sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Bring to a boil the margarine, cocoa, and buttermilk. Add powdered sugar and vanilla and mix well. Spread over warm brownies.
