James Nelson
Gernhart was the most famous resident of
Burlington, Colorado in the 1950's. Known
worldwide as "The Living Corpse," after he held his
own funeral in 1951 and received international
publicity. Jim Gernhart continued to gain fame
by holding annual funerals drawing even more
attention from the media. His "last" funeral was
held in 1980 after his death. |
